In a significant development for the local Muslim traders community at Mini market, the Chairman of Talata Mafara Local Government Council, Honourable Yahaya Abubakar Yari, has pledged to renovate a dilapidated 50-year-old mosque situated behind the bustling mini market.

The mosque, which has been a spiritual hub for the traders for over five decades, has been in a state of disrepair, posing a significant risk to the safety of worshippers.

During a recent visit to the mosque, Chairman Yari conducted a thorough assessment of the situation and promptly directed contractor to commence renovation work. This decisive action has been welcomed by the local community, who had been advocating for the mosque’s renovation for years.

According to Mallam Muhammad, a local resident and regular worshipper at the mosque said “previous attempts to renovate the structure had been unsuccessful, despite promises from a councillor 13 years ago”

“However, the current council chairman’s swift response to the issue has been hailed as a positive development”

Notably, the mosque’s location has long been a source of contention, as it partially obstructs a feeder road linking the mini market to a major road.

The traders’ union had repeatedly appealed to previous council chairmen to relocate the mosque, citing safety concerns and logistical challenges. However, their efforts were met with indifference.

Alhaji Lawali Muhammed, Chairman of the Amalgamated Union of Traders in the market, expressed gratitude to Chairman Yari for his prompt attention to the matter.

“We are thrilled that the council chairman has taken cognizance of our plight and is addressing the safety concerns of worshippers,” he said.

“The mosque’s precarious condition had been a source of worry for us, and we are grateful that the chairman has taken decisive action to rectify the situation.” He noted.

The renovation of the mosque is expected to not only enhance the spiritual experience of the local Muslim community but also improve the overall safety and infrastructure of the mini market. As the project commences, the community is optimistic that it will be completed in a timely manner, bringing much-needed relief to the worshippers and traders alike.
